The theater is none other than the Variety Photoplays - a notorious grindhouse that Bill Landis used to wax eloquent about in the pages of the original Sleazoid Express. Our heroine soon learns that working in such an seedy environment takes its toll on the human psyche. She teases her boyfriend with spoken word pornography, and stalks a wealthy theater patron. Written By post-modern feminist author Kathy Acker, Variety takes an unsparing look at NYC's "adult playground" back in the days before Disney. VULTURES (83) aka Vultures in Paradise; Flesh and Bullets. Oddball psychological thriller from oddball director Paul Leder (I Dismember Mama, My Friends Need Killing) about greedy relatives fighting over, what else? The Inheritance. Usual suspects Greg Mullavey and Meredith MacRae are here along with some surprising additions like Stuart Whitman, Aldo Ray and Yvonne DeCarlo. The gory throat slashing and transvestite medium who does Barbra Streisand impressions were weird enough, but seeing people like Whitman and DeCarlo in (simulated) sexual situations is worse than walking in on your parents. And having Mrs. Munster say "I can’t fuck and think at the same time" is just plain wrong. Order
