DAY OF THE BEAST (95) aka El Dia de la Bestia. Sacreligious horror comedy from Alex de la Iglesia (director of Accion Mutante) about a Catholic priest who discovers that Satan is scheduled to take over Earth on Christmas day. In order to get close to ol' Splitfoot and spoil his plans the little Jesuit becomes a "Bad La Penitent" and starts sinning up a storm. He tells a dying man to go to hell before stealing his wallet, pushes a mime down the subway, keys cars, burns crosses on the bottoms of his feet, shoplifts, listens to heavy metal, you know, all the stuff you used to do in high school. Very funny and well done, and be sure to watch for the scene of the demon-possessed kid with a Xuxa poster hanging over his bed! Subtitled and letterboxed. Order

DEEP END (70) Naive fifteen year old (John Moulder-Brown) takes a job as an attendant at an English public pool and bathhouse and becomes obsessed with his older female counterpart, a scheming sexual predator played to prick-teasing perfection by Jane Asher. Amused by his attentions, she spurs him on unaware that her actions are drawing both of them closer and closer to the ugly but inevitable conclusion. A swinging freelance taxidermist and his creepy incestuous sister stage an auto accident in front of their country home snaring an unsuspecting couple in their web of drugs, insanity, and death. With their hippy pals they kill the boyfriend and skin him for his tattoo, then lure the woman into their private hell, inviting her down into the basement for their weekly "sessions" (i.e. pot orgies) where they get her hooked first on weed and then later on heroin. See, all that stuff they taught you in health class was true. Order
